Read eight words aloud, learn your level, and certify the thirty most common words
The Reading Check does two jobs in one sitting. First it walks a ladder — whole words, blending, nekudos, letters — starting at the words and dropping a rung when three go wrong, climbing when three go right, and it stops as soon as it knows where you are. Then it hands you the thirty short words that make up about a sixth of everything in the siddur, Tehillim and Chumash, and every word you read correctly turns green across the whole app.
The thirty words
ExampleAdaptive from the first word
Three correct in a row proves a rung and moves up; three wrong drops down a rung and looks lower. A child who does not know the alef-beis is off the word rung after three items instead of being ground through all thirty, and a settled rung is never asked again.
Thirty words, about a sixth
The list is the top ten two-, three- and four-letter words counted across both bundled siddur nusachos, the whole Tehillim and all five Chumashim — 132,266 word-occurrences. Together they account for 17.3% of that count.
Proven once, green everywhere
A word you read correctly is stored vowel-exact and pre-credited in the siddur, Tehillim, Chumash, Tanya and Rambam, and auto-skipped in practice. Progress is kept per learner on a shared device and synced to the account.
A level, and what slipped
The verdict names your level and offers the judging standard to match; tap Use this setup and both are written. It then says what actually went wrong — the letters and vowels that slipped twice or more in the words you just read. A teacher can change any of it in Settings.
Beginners get the help
For a child, a beginner or someone learning to read later in life, each word shows its transliteration and a Hear it button, in sets of ten. Skipping costs nothing: these words certify by themselves whenever they are read correctly in normal davening.
Fluent readers skip ahead
A reader whose level is set to Advanced or Rabbi is not drilled on עַל and כִּי — a two-step confirm certifies the remaining words at once. The ladder walk itself runs when onboarding sends him here or when no level has been set yet, and that walk is where the useful finding comes from.
Who it's for — For anyone starting out — a child in cheder, an adult learning to read — and for the fluent reader who wants to know which sounds still slip. Premium and up — Reading Check rides the diagnostics feature, which starts at Premium (owner, 22 Elul 5786); the in-text Voice Analyzer stays Plus.
